Nancy, a shining star in the sky

Photo not available :(

I sit here, utterly in shock, at a complete loss of words.  I've been so blessed to have known Nancy for almost the last three years, she's been one of the most unusual and dynamic people I've known in a while.  She often had a dry sense of humor, maybe a bit on the eccentric side, but that was just her.

I can remember all the times I came running to her when I needed help figuring something out when I first started hosting.  No matter what she was doing, she would take the time and show me the right way to handle things and the right way to answer questions.  I can remember watching her shortly after I became a Rnger and just sitting in awe of how fluidly and effortlessly she helped people in the chat rooms.

I didn't get a chance to know her more on a personal level, which is truly my loss.  From what I do know of her, she was one of those kinds of people that would help and help and help until people finally got it.  She was one of the MOST patient people I've ever known and always able and willing to help people out.

I've always enjoyed watching her on her shift as well as when she wasn't on duty.  She really seemed to be intrigued by what makes people tick and definately was a people watcher.  She and I may not always have seen eye to eye, but I always had that high level of respect for her.

Nancy, your leaving us has created such a huge loss, an empty void.  You were always known as the SMiLey one, always smiling and laughing it up with both regular chatters and the new AOL members.  I could see the pride you had just being yourself.  You're definately one of a few that I would consider a classy lady.

To Nancy's family:  Your loss is not yours alone... It's also ours.  I think that I can honestly say that we will truly be a bit emptier in our hearts with Nancy's passing.  If there is ANYTHING any one of us can do to assist in this time of need, please do not hesitate to call on us.  She was truly a wonderful blessing, placed on this planet to help people.

Nancy, please keep SMiLing all the way, your smiles brightened many a day for us.

The song that you are hearing is called "When She Smiles".  I found it absolutely fitting for such a lovely lady.

I am finding it very hard what to say. It has taken me a long time to even be able to post. I can remember many nights talking to Nancy, and going in to the help room's and seeing Nancy at the top of the screen name list, and as soon as I come in she would always say hello to me. Nancy, as someone else already had said! It is with great sorrow now that you are gone but it is our loss & your gain. God Bless, and may you find peace & happiness above my friend. I never really knew Nancy but I do understand the pain that most of you must be going through...I lost an AOL friend in November who I knew for over 5 years...played so many nights on AOL (actually staying out of trouble too lol)...to a murder...she was a traffic cop...I never got to meet her but it was soooo hard to cope with...and I'm still trying to cope with it...I guess these are things you never really get over...you just kind of push them aside...I put up a memorial site for her...guess that was my way of not thinking about what had happened at the time...all I can offer is my help on a memorial site for Nancy if anyone would like help with an actual website...if so you can email me at that address...and to those who feek the loss Nancy...Remember...she is looking over everyone and probably wandering through the rooms of aol...smiling over each and every one of you :)hhsngstr

I just couldn't post before. Everytime I came here to do it, I was crying so hard I couldn't see to type. Nancy, you were a role model and mentor for those who came after you. It was tough losing those Rnger hats, but you did it with grace. I loved watching you "work" the room. You wore the uniforms with pride, and are everything a Community Leader should be. Your memory will linger among us for years to come. You :::tossed the keys::: for the last time and those who are left will :::catch them,::: and keep on helping members until we meet again in Eternity. {{{{Huggles}}}} to her CL Team members, family and friends and blessings as you travel down the grief journey together.

Nancy, I'm shattered. I knew you best as Lone Ranger. In that set of clothing, you were helpful and always excepting of "dumb questions" and shared your sense of humor with jokes about Silver messing up your living room. And in your HH SML clothing, you were ever a lady. Accepting and helpful--laughing when you were called SMeLly. I so wish I had known you better. My prayers and thoughts are with your family as I reflect on the depth of their loss. Thank you for your never-ending help and patience. ((((((Lone Ranger))))))

Everyone starts out saying that they will miss Nancy. I'm just thankful that I will see her again. The hardest lesson in life is learning how to deal with the loss of a loved one, remembering that they were put on here as a soul to play a role in many lives to touch them and to heal them is what I consider the life of an angel, and to me, that's exactly what Nancy was to us all. Nancy, thanks for loving everyone, and for being you.{{{{{{{{A115Nancy}}}}}}}}

As with everyone here, I will miss Nancy. I had the good fortune to work with her in both the Ranger and the Guide programs. There's something I must say out loud.

Nancy --
Out of uniform, sitting rather quietly, helpfully, always greeting warmly, never prying, sometimes sharing a bitt of herself publically while in uniform, more often not...Wonderful sense of self-depracating humor. Always warm, kind, caring. Never showing her frustration, never striking our in anger.

I took her for granted. She was always just there. For that, I am ashamed. This is my lesson, taught in a way that I would rather not have learned.

Thank you for all that you are, Nancy. Thank you for your humor, your kindness, your essence. I am sorry that you did not know how much I valued you.

May God grant you His Peace.

When I lost my sister Paula nearly 5 years ago, I was given this poem (believe it or not) by my plumber. This poem just seems so perfect when we lose someone as special as Nancy and can't find the right words.

When I Must Leave You

When I must leave you for a little while
Please do not grieve and shed wild tears
And hug your sorrow to you through the years.
But start out bravely with a gallant smile;
And for my sake and in my name
Live on and do all things the same,
Feed not your loneliness on empty days,
But fill each waking hour in useful ways,
Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer
And I in turn will comfort you
And hold you near;
And never, never be afraid to die,
For I am waiting for you in the sky!

I didnt know Nancy very well, but I bet she would have liked everything that people said about her. Funny thing, its all true.
To see how people in our Help Community family mourn her -- truly mourn her -- shows what an impact she had on all our lives, both as Nancy and as Rnger SML.
One thing that especially affected me was the way that she dealt with problems in the chat room when she was on duty. She was fun, firm and fair. She was able to distract people and seemed to smile from the shoulders down. In all the years I have been in rooms she hosted - not knowing who she was- I never saw her lose it. No matter what was happening. She loved all people and it showed.
Goodbye my friend, HH SML :)

Perhaps I knew Nancy a bit better than most. I stumbled upon Nancy in one of the lower TnT rooms very late one night in late 1996 while I was in play clothes. I was awed by her abilities and, after watching her for several weeks, suggested that she join the Rnger team. In spite of her doubts she applied and was accepted. Nancy "unofficially" shadowed me for months while I was on duty, asking questions and showing me with new eyes what AOL was all about. We often spent hours chatting online and on the phone about this or that or whatever. Later she joined the Guide Team. It was not until after she decided to leave the Guide program that I learned of her health problems. I was deeply saddened when I received the email from her sister about her death, the email that I didn't want to receive but expected. I pray for strength for her family during their time of loss. I will miss my dear friend but I know that she is in a better place. Rest well sweet lady, we shall meet again.

One of the better parts of the whole Rnger biz...

Nancy was probably one of the best rngers out there. Why she put up with it is simple - the people.

But, "dust to dust", and we all have our time. I hope everyone's prepared for that time; I know in Jesus's name I'll see a lot of people there, and hopefully i'll also see some of the many people that will come to this board and post.

Jesus's Grace and Blessings unto Nancy's family and may the hand of the Lord extend over them to heal them during this time - amen.
